Leading through Learning: PDSA Cycle

Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle provides a format for structuring short-cycle tests. Follow the steps below to learn about the four major steps. See Chapter 5 of the Leading through Learning Toolkit for more detailed directions on use.

  1. Plan
    • Define the solution
    • Design a test
  2. Do
    • Test the solution
    • Collect data on how the solution works
  3. Study
    • Analyze the data
    • Compare what happened with what was predicted to happen
    • Glean insights for the next problem-solving cycle
  4. Act
    • Determine what to do based on what was learned. Abandon, modify, or expand the use of the solution?
