Spread the Word: A NYC Reads Family Partnership Toolkit

In an effort to help school leaders collaborate with families in the implementation of NYC Reads, NYC Public Schools' literacy initiative, CPRL and NYCPS developed "Spread the Word: A NYC Reads Family Partnership Toolkit." While specific to NYC, this tool offers valuable guidance and can be customized by school leaders in any system. The tool includes a school-year roadmap, taking leaders from July to June through strategies they can use to

• facilitate two-way consistent communication and learning between educators and families
• provide families with varied, asset-based toolboxes of literacy supports for their children
• celebrate literacy as a source of joy, multilingualism, and cultural continuity

• continuously learn about how family partnership efforts are working and how they can be improved
